Timeless Design Inspired by Nature.

ALKU began with a simple realisation: what we wear affects how we feel. More than we’re taught to notice.

I grew up in Finland, surrounded by forests, seasons, and quiet respect for nature. Life there moves slower. Nature isn’t something you visit - it shapes everything.

When I later moved to Australia, the contrast was striking. The heat, the light, the intensity of everyday life made something impossible to ignore: almost everything in my wardrobe was made from plastic.

Polyester. Nylon. Elastane. Clothes that trapped heat, held static, irritated skin, and felt disconnected from the body.

I started searching for alternatives and that’s when I discovered linen.

Not just as a fabric, but as a feeling. Breathable. Cooling. Grounding. Alive.

Linen has been worn for thousands of years in warm climates for a reason. It works with the body, not against it. But finding linen clothing that was pure, flattering, and thoughtfully designed felt nearly impossible.

When I did find linen, it was often shapeless or impractical. Linen doesn’t stretch and poor design shows immediately. I wanted pieces that honoured femininity, movement, and real life. So I stopped searching and started creating.

I bought 100% linen fabric and began sewing the pieces I couldn’t find anywhere else. Not with the intention of starting a brand, but simply to make clothing that felt natural, comfortable, and beautiful to wear.

Those early, imperfect pieces became the foundation of ALKU.

ALKU means “a beginning” in Finnish. A return. A reset. A quieter way forward.

Today, ALKU exists to offer an alternative to plastic clothing and fast fashion - without asking you to sacrifice elegance, quality, or self-expression.

Each piece is designed with intention:

  • Made from 100% French linen
  • Designed to feel as good as it looks
  • Crafted to last, be repaired, and worn again and again

ALKU isn’t about trends or excess. 

It’s about choosing better - for your body, your wardrobe, and the world around you.
